How to layer an Ayurvedic evening routine
Cleanse, treat, seal. The order matters more than the number of products — and most routines fail because the last step is missing.
Most evening routines fail at the last step. People cleanse well, they treat carefully, and then they go to bed with nothing holding either of those steps in place. By morning the work has evaporated.
Ayurvedic practice treats the evening as the repair window. The body is still, blood flow to the skin is higher, and whatever you apply has six or seven undisturbed hours to work. That is why we build the routine in three movements rather than five products.
Start with an oil cleanse rather than a foaming one. Warm a small amount of Ukunu Oil between your palms and work it over dry skin for a full minute — the point is to dissolve the day, not to scrub it off. Follow with our herbal facewash and lukewarm water, never hot.
One active preparation is enough. Two on the same evening does nothing except thin out each of them.
The treatment step is where most of the benefit sits, and where most people over-reach. One active preparation is enough. If you are working on brightness, that is the Valmi Pack twice a week. If you are working on texture, it is the night cream every night. Alternating both on the same evening does nothing except thin out each of them.
Sealing is the step to protect. A thin layer of night cream over damp skin traps the water that is already there, which is the whole mechanism — a moisturiser does not add moisture so much as it stops moisture leaving. Damp skin, thin layer, no rubbing.
Give any new routine six weeks before you judge it. Skin turns over on roughly a four-week cycle, so anything you notice in the first fortnight is surface hydration rather than real change. Photograph your face in the same light once a week and compare week one to week six, not day to day.
